I read somewhere that most people tend to skip the stretching activity before an exercise routine or sports. This is probably because stretching doesn't really burn many calories and neither does it make you stronger. And since stretching takes time to do and it’s that time that we simply can’t afford to spare, many of us would simply go straight to the main reason why and what we were all geared up for in the first place.
So, why do we need to stretch? For a whole lot of good reasons actually. For one, stretching allows for a better range of motion. You’ll get more balanced, coordinated and less prone to hurting yourself. Second, you’ll get to be more flexible which is good for you as flexible muscle can absorb shock better and can handle movements that often lead to muscle pull. And believe me, stretching relaxes you. It’ll leave you with that Feel Good feeling.
Often time we hear of older people complaining about being less flexible as they aged. This is a good reason why you should start while you still can and you'll remain as flexible as long as you keep to the habit. For the older folks, just stretch the best you can .... aaaahhhh my back! So, the next time, you put on that jogging shoes or push the gym door open, immediately switch your thoughts to your first stretching move. Yes right, start with the neck …and all the way to the heels....
aaaahhhh!!!
